Saint John HISTORY: St. John was founded in 1837 by a German immigrant, John Hack, who’s family arrived in Northwest Indiana by wagon. Hack was a religious man who built his home on 40 acres east of what is now US Rt. 41 and Joliet Street. During Hack’s time, Joliet Street was a stagecoach trail which took travelers from Crown Point to Chicago. Hack was a religious man who often called upon Priests to provide Sunday Mass for area home owners. He later founded Saint John the Evangelist Church. An old log cabin chapel still exists on the church property at 93th and Wicker Avenue. Hack was also a businessman and had built a peach brandy distillery that was one of the areas early businesses. In the 1920s, Lake Hills Country Club built a ski run for winter play. The Lake Hills golf course followed. Today, this is the location of scenic homesites in the Lake Hills subdivision.

Things to do in Saint John: Saint John is home to Zig-E’s Funland, a fun place for both children and adults.
